There it drops into a Ledetech stand so it’s raised to an appropriate height for ergonomics. I’ll even use my iPad sitting on my desk leaving my computer off. The removal of so much weight in my bag even makes running between home and Starbucks an enjoyable endeavour with a fully loaded bag. It’s also been freeing to know that for the price of the new education-focused iPad, I can replace my entire office and my bag is so so much lighter to carry around town as I switch work spaces. Those moments of weakness when it’s easy to switch on macOS just aren’t there on iOS, so instead I stay focused on the work I need to do. The longer I spend using the iPad only, the more I realize the extra friction that comes when task switching is a benefit. My iPad has become my primary computer for all my work. I use Bear here as well to keep track of my client notes and random digital bits. All my other task management is done in my Bullet Journal. I handle email with Spark mail and use Editorial to edit the single taskpaper file I use to track any task items that require a link to be kept around. I don’t have a good solution yet for this on my iPad, so I’ll end up using my phone to reference any chat going on as we talk about business. There is a bit of friction in this with an iPad in that I can’t access Slack and have video on my Zoom calls. Most of Friday is spent on various Zoom calls for my coaching clients. I use Brusfri as my denoise tool because it’s fast and available on iOS. One day a week I’ll spend the afternoon editing podcasts in Ferrite and then use Firefox and Ulysses to build the rest of the content for the podcast episodes. I’ll use Blink and the Mosh protocol to connect with my server and then use Vim on the server to do client work directly on our staging server. This requires Blink Shell, Ergo Web Tools, Dash, and Firefox. The afternoons are usually spent developing websites. Pixelmator is used when I’m combining a few things to build a content giveaway image and Canva is used to design PDFs or book covers. For the times I need to design something, I use Pixelmator or Canva from my iPad. I’ll use Workflow to resize and reduce the file size of images for my blog posts. That means Ulysses is open and I’ll be switching back and forth between Firefox and Ulysses for research purposes. After that I usually spend the morning writing for myself or some other publication. My day starts with some reading on the Kindle app with Ulysses in split mode so that I can take notes. How are you using your iPad on a daily basis? I usually have a picture of my kids up if I’ve bothered to change the wallpaper. Since I wiped it and reinstalled it a few months ago, I haven’t changed it. I have an original 9.7” iPad Pro in white with 128GB of storage. Second, I do web development, including some of the recent changes on The Sweet Setup. That means using apps like Ulysses and Scrivener. First, I write content as a freelancer for myself and for clients. I’m Curtis McHale, and I’ve been self-employed for 10 years. New setup interviews are posted every Monday follow us on RSS or Twitter to stay up to date. We do these interviews because not only are they fun, but a glimpse into what tools someone uses and how they use those tools can spark our imagination and give us an idea or insight into how we can do things better. After a few modifications, it now looks like this.Every week, we post a new interview with someone about what software they use on their Mac, iPhone, or iPad. I am refering to the iTermWidget script that i found in the gallery of Scriptable. As a result, moving between rooms can even cause phones and tablets to lose connection, since handing off the signal from one access point to another isn't always smooth. The rooms are close together, but the walls between them are thick enough that an old router configured as a bridge (and connected via a network switch to the main modem/router in the office) is needed in the living room for decent wi-fi. Plug a controller, mouse, or keyboard into one of the USB ports on your Link. Power your Steam Link with the power adapter, plug in to a display device (HDMI), and connect to your home network. I recently remodeled my living space and moved my gaming PC to a home office, leaving my PS4 and Chromecast in a living/entertainment room. Getting Started Turn on your home PC, launch Steam, and log in. In this window click In-Home Streaming, and tick the enable streaming box. ALVR will present the device as a regular headset, and, if the connection is solid, it should act like one. From here, you can load up a Steam VR game. I'm hoping to use a Steam Link to play games from my desktop PC on the TV in my living room, but I'm worried my network's speed or its characteristics aren't up to the task, and was hoping for your feedback before I buy (Steam Links aren't cheap where I live). To do this, click the Steam menu in the top left corner of the desktop client, then click Settings. When you purchase through our links we may earn a commission. Today, let’s talk about the Reddit protests that temporarily took down the site on Monday and how, after years of working successfully to devolve power to its user base, the company wound up. Hi folks, was wondering about your experiences with Steam Link for streaming PC games (wired or wi-fi) to a TV in a different room. Playing on the LV codes, Williams’ collaboration with American pixel artist E.T. The line, marked by photo prints of the Pont Neuf and a uniquely designed coat with a shaved monogram motif, also underscored his flair for distinct aesthetics. The runway show mirrored a music video’s high energy, perhaps a testament to the meteoric reach of the brand’s parent company, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.Ĭhanneling gender-fluid appeal, Williams showcased an exhaustive collection spanning checkerboard-patterned denim to a sophisticated cream evening jacket. The world-renowned musician, known for his genre-blurring creativity, masterfully orchestrated the event. The fashion show epitomized high-voltage energy, reverberating through the audience and culminating in a standing ovation for Williams. The pulse of Paris was set alight as Williams unveiled a debut fusing streetwear aesthetics into the French maison’s traditional lineage. “It’s not lost on me that I’m afforded this opportunity to tell these stories,” he said. His interpretation of the Louis Vuitton initials signifies his intention to pour love and appreciation into his work, carrying the legacy of Black culture forward in a space where it has been historically underrepresented. “LV is for Louis Vuitton, but it’s also ‘lover’,” he mused. Pharrell’s love for life, the moment, and opportunities, imbue his approach to design. “A lot of people lost their lives and suffered through the experiences to get us to these positions,” he noted, underscoring the painful history that fuels his desire to honor his community through his work at Louis Vuitton. Williams emphasized the hard-earned global recognition of this cultural “sauce,” exemplified in the influence of figures like LeBron James, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Prince and artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. “I think it’s something in the sauce,” he said. He reflected on the culture’s unique flavor, influence and widespread appeal. “My appointment is a tribute,” Williams said.īlack culture and the struggles Black Americans have faced is a strong driving force for Pharrell. Williams also feels like he’s carrying on the legacy of the late Abloh, who was the first Black artistic director at Louis Vuitton and a personal friend. But stepping into the designer role isn’t just about fulfilling his personal destiny. “So, like when you’re chosen, you just kind of ride the wave.”Ī sense of being selected by the universe, or by Louis Vuitton, carries a sense of destiny for him. But the difference is, I was chosen,” Pharrell told AP in a joint interview. “I didn’t feel any of that because if I was competing for it and people kept telling me, ‘No don’t do it,’ I may have felt that way. But Pharrell says he doesn’t feel pressure to prove himself - he was chosen. It represents a daring move by the luxury brand to entrust the position to a musical artist and cultural influencer, not a classically trained designer. And finally, Nikon is rumored to at least finally update the Z6 with the professional features it was missing. The Sony A9 II and perhaps the upcoming A7 IV are also intriguing. When it comes to professional mirrorless, the Canon R5 and R6 look great. I think you will find yourself looking elsewhere for answers. It can handle 80-90% of the situations you will want to photograph.īut if you are looking for a professional camera system, I think you would be well-served renting an XT-3 or 4 for a couple of weeks with a nice lens and really pushing it to meet more challenging situations. The accompanying lenses are relatively affordable. At its current price, this is a steal of a camera. If you are considering the XT-3 for a personal camera, I think you will love it. Though I used the Nikon D850 for more dynamic situations like astrophotography and some select landscape shots, the Fuji was always the go-to for walkabouts.Ī Cadillac Mountain sunrise as seen through a Fuji XT-3. And I shot with it about 75% of the time, particularly when I went on hikes with my dog and bicycle rides. I did bring my Fuji to Acadia National Park on my recent three-week workcation. I have augmented it with the incredible XF 56 f1.2 lens, and the less impressive but low profile XF 27 f2.8 lens. It’s a damn good lens that delivers robust sharp images. Finally, it’s joystick-based autofocus system is 80 times better than the Nikon D850’s.īelieve it or not, I am still using the kit 18-55 F2.8-4 kit lens, too. Its compensation dial is better and more intuitive than Nikon’s compensation feature. In addition, the Fuji XT-3 bracketing feature is superior to Nikon’s, particularly when shooting handheld. It is simply head and shoulders better than the Nikon DSLRs I have used. What I Love About the Fuji XT-3īass Harbor Head Light as photographed on my Fuji XT-3.įrom a technical perspective, the Fuji XT-3 is a vastly superior video camera. But with so many cheap full-frame cameras hitting the market, I understand this. This is a minor issue for me, but it has come up a few times with tight portraits.įinally, I am still a bit peeved that Fuji released the XT-4 so quickly after the 3 and that the company basically gutted the latter’s price making my used XT-3 worth only several hundred dollars. Why bother when you have a Nikon D850?Ī smaller nitpick… Pixel peepers may find the unique Fuji X-Trans processor pixels a bit annoying, particularly if you want to edit at that level. As a result, I wouldn’t use my XT-3 for an event or night photography, unless I needed to as an emergency fill-in body. I have seen it miss in several low light situations where Nikon DSLRs almost always succeed. These flaws impact night and event photography.įuji’s low light experience is bad enough that even though I can shoot with the XT-3, I avoid doing so. Finally, its lower ISO range ends at 160, a far cry from bigger full-frame sensors featured on Canon and Nikon. The XT-3 struggles to meter well in such situations. I pushed the edit as far as I could take it without making the photo too grainy. Sophisticated Camera Users Should Be Aware of these XT-3 FlawsĪ lovely single frame sunset taken with the XT-3, but it does illustrate the limited dynamic range. Instead, I will simply discuss the negatives and positives based on my experiences, and how the XT-3 fits into my current kit. I’ll leave that to the DP Reviews of the world. This review doesn’t feature lab tests, and hopefully, it won’t bore you with overlong descriptions of technical details. Given the cheaper and quite good XF lenses, yes, the XT-3 is probably as good a value as entry-level full-frame mirrorless cameras like the Sony A7II, Canon RP, and Nikon Z5. For $1000, I don’t think you can buy a better crop-sensor body. Its sister In-Body stabilization empowered XT-4 is a much pricier $1700. The XT-3 is currently a $999 crop sensor device. I would not replace my D850 with an XT-3 or 4. When I read such claims, I just shake my head. It is not a better camera than professional full-frame cameras. While a crop sensor device, the XT-3, and its newer sister XT-4 are often lauded as comparable to many full-frame cameras.Īfter more than a year shooting with the camera, I can safely say the Fuji is a wonderful second body. When it became clear the Nikon Z6 was tragically flawed with both major autofocus issues and intentionally stunted device (hello one slot), I passed and bought a Fuji XT-3. Scoot Down the Highway was an award-winning street shot I took with my Fuji XT-3.
